I am feeling a lot better this week! My mom fed me bland chicken and rice (which, by the way, I don’t think is bland! I find it delicious!) for a few days and now I feel right as rain! Because my mom takes all of my normal chew toys away, she makes a safe to eat treat for me that I can enjoy alone or when my mom is home.
Canned or fresh pumpkin (not the pumpkin pie filling though! Make sure the ingredient list says just pumpkin with no sugar or spices. Save that can for Thanksgiving!) is a good thing for your mom to keep on hand. It’s helpful for solving issues with both constipation and diarrhea. It’s high in fiber and low in calories. It’s important not to feed us too much pumpkin though, so consult your veterinarian before giving pumpkin as a treatment!
My mom likes to put some pumpkin in a baby kong, put it in the freezer until it’s nice and solid like a popsicle and let me have it. It keeps me busy for a long time and I love the taste!
Since my mom can’t use the whole can of pumpkin at once, here’s a trick she uses to conveniently keep single servings of pumpkin ready to go when she needs them. She uses a silicone ice tray and spoons the pumpkin in the tray (these are from Target, my my mom has seen them at Marshall’s and Home Goods also!). Of course, she pops these in the freezer and when she needs some pumpkin, she’ll pop one or two out and warm them in the microwave for a few seconds.
The pumpkin stuffed kongs are great for when I’m bored, but can’t have a bully stick or they’re a safe treat for when I’m home alone. Sometimes, my mom switches it up and adds some grated carrots to the pumpkin (yum!).
